I'm beginning to layer the shades, paying close attention to the details in my original picture.
There are eight layers of appliqué on the face and three in hair at this stage.
Of course the neck and the neck shading was the first to go down. I have worked from the background to the foreground.
Now I can add the facial details.
It is extremely important to be accurate. There is nothing worse than a portrait that doesn't look like the person....!!!!!
Added to that, you will notice that I have cut the pieces in a "Fussy" manner. Rounded or straight pieces look false...
I'm actually painting with fabric, so in reality I don't want a childlike image... I want a realistic image.
