This is one of the photos I took in Mexico... simple clean, but really interesting. I love the colors.
So I raided the stash for the background fabric. I also want that to be simple and understated. I had a few batiks that were a similar color, however, the movement in the fabric detracted from the strong images of the cactus leaves. I chose one of my favorites... a McKenna Ryan fabric. I've used her graduated fabric in lots of my quilts. The color is graduated but muted.
I enlarge the photos to fit onto an A3 sheet. I'm lucky I have a couple of A3 printers.
I used a good quality tracing paper, Utoplex, swiss tracing paper.
I trace the outline of the image in clean strong lines and make a pattern.
