We've done it.

 

This is our group, Pauline McPharlain, Jan Munzberg. Me and Jeanette Coombes.

I've been quilting all day today and I'm exhausted... time for a coffee and relax in front of the TV.

We had a wonderful time yesterday at the launch of our Group quilt.

The excitement built up during the day and as the time arrived for the opening we just hugged each other and we couldn't wipe the smile off our faces.

We've had wonderful feedback and a lot of the men were intrigued with the whole process.

It's the first time I'd seen the quilt hanging rather than be on the design wall. I just love it...

We've been asked to show it at Guild this week too.

BUT sorry, I can't put up photos on the web. YET.....

The Utah inspired challenge.

 

I added some Texture Magic that Nedra Sorrenson asked me to try. I just placed it at the back of my fabric and stitched on the pattern of the fabric adding a few lines of my own... Once again, take into consideration the size of the piece it would be no good doing large lines... it wouldn't have the right effect.

The morning.

It's 5.30 am.It's cold and wet and still pitch dark outside.

The rain is pounding sideways and the trees are taking a battering, the leaves shine in the moonlight as they catch the light in the rain.

I just woke up. I came in from the shed at 12.00 p.m. and I fell asleep in the chair and stayed there all night.

From experience, Keith knows not to wake me to tell me ...."go to bed"  I was putting the finishing touches to a presentation of the journey of making our joint quilt. It goes for 10 minutes and includes film of the outback and music to make you smile.

I had a lovely day yesterday, I caught up with an old friend in the morning and then Jamie look me to lunch. Joshy and Callie turned up too. We had a couple of hours sitting by the fire in the restaurant, coffee and wine, good food, just friends and catching up with all the local news.

We're having some new babies in the family, so it's all very exciting... Oh, and they are due on the same day. So that will be an exciting event.

It's local market day today... fresh tomatoes, honey cured smoked bacon and home made bread to grace our table, these are things I miss as I travel.

A new Collage Idea.

As a tutor, I need to update my class samples and I just don't have enough hours in the day... however, preparing notes for the collage class I decided to add another dimension to collage and I played around with this quilt.

I created the image of the zebra on paper and made a pattern.

I wanted it to be really bright and in fact I used a bunch of Thai silk fabrics graduating the colors for the stripes... but it just didn't have enough punch, so I used a graduated fabric and I think it looks great.

I had the background fabric in my stash and it was a fluke that the colors matched... so I didn't really have to add a lot of collage pieces to create a picture.

 

This is the way it has to stay until I get back... but it's interesting...

I can do some super quilting on the background.....!!!

Sketch book project.

I love this idea and I thought you might like to see it, or even join the project.

It's like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country.

After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

Anyone - from anywhere in the world - can be a part of the project.

Poster for the Alamogordo Event.

This is the poster we're using for the Southern New Mexico Festival of Quilts.

I'm donating my time and all the money raised will go to youth projects in the area.

We're having 3 classes over two days and I believe you get a discount for the dinner if you attend the one day class... but then again, you can just come to the dinner.

I think it's good value because your class fee includes the kit for most of the requirements for the day.

The venue is super and there are lots of vendors selling quilting supplies, old quilts, machines and of course food vendors....

We're going to have fun.... trust me... I'm really excited about the event and it's being managed as a project for the wonderful 1st National Bank in Alamogordo.

Oh, I almost forgot, there are discount rates at the local hotels... 

So come and spend a couple of days with me, it's just a month away and it's going to be fabulous....
