Your podcast about charity reminded my own experience with trying to think of a meaningful gift for my cousinl. She was dying of breast cancer at the age of 46 (this was abut 1980) and I was going to the National Institute of Health to visit with her (she was on an experimental program developing chemo therapy for breast cancer victims at the time). I was very upset and couldn't think of what kind of gift to take to a dying woman whom I loved very much. In the end I made her her three hospital gowns....from a peasant blouse pattern...opened in the back as usual with hospital gowns and with an elastic neckline so that the medicine could easily be placed in the shunt in her shoulder and so that it was long enough to cover her whithered body. They were made in beautiful floral fabrics, soft and feminine. When she put one on....she was transformed into a real and living person....not just anybody attired in an old plain white wrapper. The fact that she was uplifted and had a smile on her face meant all the world to me. Just thought I'd share.
